The 1975 Edition. The Gold Standard. A tribute to 50 years of innovation, excellence, and the people who make it possible.
London, 1975. Andrew Ritchie, a brilliant young inventor, put pen to paper and sketched the original Brompton folding bike, calling it the âbike of the future.â It was a radical departure from bicycles of the day â the first in a line of iconic designs which, today, represent the gold standard in folding bicycles.
Each detail tells a chapter of Brompton's story. The Thermal Fade finish evokes the brazing process used by their team to produce bikes that last a lifetime. Each bike comes with one of 1,975 collectible âBrazerâs Coinâ as a tribute to their teamâs talent and dedication. And, of course, thereâs 50th anniversary gold wherever you look because this is a moment to celebrate!
Â
The Thermal Fade finish is inspired by the colors created during the crucially important frame brazing process.
Â
Brazing is the method that Brompton uses to create a strong and stable bond between the steel tubes that come together to make a Brompton frame. The frame is the heart of every bike, and brazing produces a high-quality, and super-durable result.
Â
A highly skilled craft, Brompton's brazers are trained in-house for 18-months. Some Master Brazers have been crafting their bikes for over 20 years â passing on their well-honed skills to the newer team members. Each brazer has their own unique style and a small signature at the bottom of every bike frame marks that maker.
The Brompton Brazerâs Coin is one of 1,975, made to celebrate everyone who has created our bikes for the last fifty years. There are 52 expert brazers in Brompton's London Factory, handmaking every single Brompton. They are proud of what they do, and thatâs why each bike is marked by its maker. Each brass coin is embossed with one of their brazerâs initials. The material will naturally patina over time, making it as unique as your Brompton bike.
The Mid handlebar has a grip-height of 1013mm or 39 7/8" which gives a fairly upright ride with excellent control.
