Drive Medical Med Aire Low Air Loss Mattress Replacement System - DM-14027

The Med-Aire is designed for the use of pressure prevention, treatment, and management of pressure ulcers.  This mattress operates in an alternating pressure mode or static mode and is ideal for hospitals, nursing homes and home care. The mattress has 20 air bladders that can deflate in 20 seconds for easy CPR access. The two way stretch zippered and quilted urethane fabric cover is water resistant, vapor permeable, machine washable and low sheer.

Within the 20 air bladders, nine have laser holes to achieve a low air loss function, to increase patient comfort, keep the patient cool and speed recovery.  The Med-Aire also has LED and audible alarms which provide performance data and alerts the caregiver when the pressure falls below 10mmHg (inner mattress pressure).  The Med-Aire by Drive is a great economical option when an alternating pressure mattress is needed.

The Med Aire Alternating Pressure Mattress Replacement System with Low Air Loss by Drive Medical provides alternating pressure and is designed to be used in the prevention, treatment and management of Pressure Ulcers. The mattress has 20 air bladders, nine with laser holes to achieve the low air loss function and to increase patients comfort by keeping the affected area cool and dry ensuring a speedy recovery.

The Aire cells are 8 high and are constructed with 40% nylon/60% PVC for longevity and durability. The zippered mattress cover is constructed with a quilted, urethane coated, nylon fabric which is, water resistant, vapor permeable, machine washable and low sheer safeguarding the patients skin and comfort. The Whisper Quiet pump produces a consistent air flow and the special vibration isolating features insure that the patient rests easily. The LED and audible alarms provide critical performance date and alert a caregiver when the pressure falls below 10mmHG, guaranteeing the patient is always comfortable.

    Q&A

Drive Medical Med Aire Low Air Loss Mattress Replacement System (DM-14027) – FAQs

Q: What is the Drive Medical Med Aire Low Air Loss Mattress Replacement System?
A: The DM-14027 is a medical-grade full mattress replacement system that combines alternating pressure therapy with low air loss to help prevent and manage pressure ulcers in home or clinical care settings.

Q: How does this mattress system work?
A: It uses 20 air cells that cycle pressure on a timed sequence while selected cells provide continuous airflow to reduce heat and moisture, improving skin protection and comfort.

Q: What is the benefit of low air loss technology?
A: Low air loss helps keep the skin cool and dry by releasing small amounts of air through the mattress surface, reducing moisture buildup and lowering the risk of skin breakdown.

Q: What is alternating pressure therapy?
A: Alternating pressure therapy continuously redistributes body weight by inflating and deflating air cells in cycles, helping reduce prolonged pressure on high-risk areas.

Q: What is the weight capacity of the DM-14027?
A: The system typically supports patients up to approximately 350 lbs, depending on configuration.

Q: What size bed does it fit?
A: The mattress is designed to fit standard hospital beds (approximately 36" x 80" x 8").

Q: Who is this mattress best for?
A: It is ideal for patients at risk of pressure injuries, long-term bed rest, post-surgical recovery, or those needing advanced pressure redistribution and moisture control support.

    Maintenance Tips
    • Inspect power unit, tubing, and electrical cord regularly for cracks, kinks, or wear.
    • Ensure all air hoses are tightly connected and free from leaks or blockages.
    • Test alternating pressure and airflow settings periodically to confirm proper function.
    • Keep air pump vents clean and unobstructed to maintain consistent airflow.
    • Check mattress cells for punctures, deflation, or uneven inflation and repair or replace if needed.
    • Clean mattress cover with approved disinfectants and allow full drying before reuse.
    • Do not fold or crease the mattress; store flat or loosely rolled when not in use.
    • Verify CPR quick-release function is operational for emergency deflation.
    • Respond immediately to low-pressure alarms to prevent therapy interruption.
    • Perform routine inspections to ensure optimal pressure redistribution and patient safety.
